Uncommon piece from the Gushee Claremont Hotel in NYC on Riverside Drive at Hudson River & Grants tomb. Measures 6" by 6" square and weighs 9.5 ounces. Heavy hotel ware card/coin/key/tip tray. Marked with a crest inside the tray marked Claremont.
The Claremont Inn was originally erected as a residence on Riverside Dr. In 1788 and then became a public tavern prior to the civil war. It was acquired by the city of New York in in 1878 and was operated as a a restaurant until it was demolished in 1950. It had different lessees over the year one of which was Ralph H.
